Sruthi Gandhiramanathan

Sruthi Gandhi is a high school senior from Northern Kentucky with a strong interest in computer engineering, data science, and engineering innovation. She enjoys exploring how technology can be used to solve real-world problems and create meaningful impact in communities.
At her school, Sruthi serves as Student Council President, where she helps lead initiatives that strengthen school culture, organize student events, and represent student voices in school leadership decisions. She is also actively involved as president in her school’s Multicultural Club, where she works to celebrate cultural diversity and create opportunities for students to learn from one another’s backgrounds and experiences.
In addition to her leadership roles, Sruthi is deeply engaged in STEM. Her research interests include data analysis, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, and she enjoys exploring how computational tools can be applied to complex social and technological challenges. She was recently recognized for her work with a Best STEM award through the Constituting America program.
Outside the classroom, Sruthi is the founder of InspireHER, an initiative dedicated to encouraging young girls to pursue STEM careers through workshops, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences. She also enjoys playing piano and has played for 9 years.
Sruthi hopes to study computer science and engineering and continue developing innovative solutions that expand opportunity and representation in STEM fields at Purdue University.

Our Interview With Sruthi

Was this the first time you entered the contest?
Yes

How did you hear about the contest?
I searched up scholarships that did not have a citizenship requirement and found a video on social media.

What inspired your work?
I was inspired by the idea that the Constitution is not just a historical document, but a framework that continues to shape everyday life in the United States. I wanted to explore how the principles of the Constitution, like individual rights and limits on government power, still influence modern society and the opportunities people have today.

What did you learn about the U.S. Constitution while creating your entry?
While creating my entry, I learned how carefully the Constitution balances power between branches of government while protecting individual liberties. I also realized how the document was designed to adapt over time through amendments and interpretation, which allows it to remain relevant even centuries after it was written.

How do you plan to spread the word this year to your peers about the importance of the U.S Constitution?
I plan to share my experience with the contest through social media and conversations with classmates to encourage them to learn more about the Constitution and participate in programs like this. I think connecting constitutional principles to current events and everyday rights helps make the topic more engaging for students.

Which U.S. historical site would you like to visit?
I would love to visit Independence Hall in Philadelphia, where the Constitution was debated and signed. Seeing the place where such an influential document was created would be an incredible reminder of how ideas developed centuries ago still shape our country today.

What are your career plans?
I plan to study computer engineering with a focus on human-centered innovation and personalized education systems. In the long term, I hope to combine technology and entrepreneurship to build tools that expand access to high-quality education and help create more equitable learning opportunities.

How do you spend your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, coding small projects, exploring data analysis, playing piano, and organizing initiatives that encourage young women to explore STEM fields.

Why is the Constitution relevant today?
The Constitution remains relevant because it defines the fundamental rights and freedoms that shape American society. Issues like free speech, privacy, and the balance of governmental power are constantly debated, and the Constitution provides the framework for addressing these challenges while protecting individual liberties.
