Mason Edwards, Streetman, Texas – 2026 Turner Maurice Gauntt, Jr. Exemplary Citizen Award Winner

First and foremost, I am a follower of Jesus Christ. My faith is crucial to my everyday life. In high school, I became very involved with many groups. Namely, I was captain of the football team and I played center; in powerlifting, I squatted 540 lbs, bench-pressed 475 lbs, and deadlifted 500 lbs; I managed the cross country and girl’s powerlifting team; I was a lead actor in One Act Play; I was president of the Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Beta Club; I advanced to the state competition three years in a row in an FFA competition; among others.

Academically, I graduated valedictorian of my class with a 5.59 GPA from Fairfield High School. I have taken 4 AP classes and 12 semesters of dual-enrollment classes. During my senior year, I would spend my off-period reading to elementary students. I am attending Yale University beginning in the Fall of 2026, studying Molecular Biology on a Pre-medicine track.

In the future, I strive to become a pediatric oncologist.
