Emily Wheeler
Hey there! My name is Emily Wheeler. I’m a 19 year old student at Liberty University, and I’m studying Christian Leadership and Church Ministries with a focus on Women’s Leadership. I was blessed to grow up in a Christian home, and was taught strong values, a passion for my faith, and a love for my country.
During middle school, I lived overseas in Thailand. This amazing experience allowed me to see the beauty of other cultures, while realizing how blessed we are in our country. Because of my beliefs, I believe it is very important to be thankful for the country we have, and that Americans have an active role in helping our country to maintain its freedom. I’ve become passionate about encouraging the hearts of America to remember their faith, freedom, and values.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading and creating artwork including pottery, oil paintings, and charcoal drawings. At home, I love to spend time with my family, friends, and pets. After college, I hope to use my degree to serve God wherever He leads, whether perhaps as a teacher overseas, a conference speaker in the States, or as a writer. Whatever the future holds, I hope to become a world-changer and inspire others to do the same.

Our Interview With Emily
Was this the first time you entered the contest?
Yes
How did you hear about the contest?
Through a scholarship website
What inspired your work?
I love literature, and was inspired by dystopian books such as Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. These books are so important because they cause us to think about a future without our rights. In the same way, I hoped my story would be thought provoking on the subject of our constitutional rights.
What did you learn about the U.S. Constitution while creating your entry?
Before entering this contest, I really didn’t know much about the specifics of the Constitution. I knew the basic principles and how it was important, but thankfully through researching for this entry I learned a lot more about the first amendment rights and how important they are to our country.
How do you plan to spread the word this year to your peers about the importance of the U.S Constitution?
By initiating conversation about our history and the importance of our rights! I love to talk with others about their beliefs, and the importance of our values. I encourage others to attend political conferences at my college and to be informed about the relevance of the Constitution in our daily lives.
Which U.S. historical site would you like to visit?
I would love to go see the Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia!
What are your career plans?
I ultimately want to leave my career plans up to where God leads me, but I would love to become an author and speaker someday! I also hope to serve overseas on mission long-term.
How do you spend your free time?
I love to spend my free time reading a good book, playing games and having conversations with my friends, and exploring new places around town or on campus!
Why is the Constitution relevant today?
The importance of the Constitution doesn’t change over time. No matter the year, we need freedom of speech, religion, assembly, press, and petition. The whole of the Constitution protects our rights, freedom, and safety as a people.
