Meet the Guest
Joe Crowley
Congressman Joe Crowley, a member of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, represented the people of New York’s 14th congressional district, including his hometown of Woodside, Queens, in the US Congress for nearly 20 years. He served in the House Democratic leadership for six years, first as Vice-Chair and then as Chairman of the Caucus, the 4th highest ranking position in House Democrat leadership. He was also a member of the prestigious House Committee on Ways and Means.
Congressman Crowley served as a three-time co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans, co-chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Irish Affairs and as an active member of the Friends of Ireland Caucus. He was also Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, and co-founder of both the Bangladesh Caucus and Rare Diseases Caucus.
Before entering national politics, Congressman Crowley served in the New York State Assembly from 1987 to 1998. Congressman Crowley’s parents are both of Irish descent — his mother was an immigrant from Northern Ireland. His father was a police officer. He has been involved in efforts to end violence in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and recently represented the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission this past November at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding marking Northern Ireland’s unique relationship with the U.S. The MOU was signed by Communities Minister Gordon Lyons and Commissioner Crowley at the Ulster American Folk Park in Co. Tyrone on November 4, 2025.
