Barbara K

Barbara K. is a current sophomore majoring in documentary film production and in her school’s honors program. After graduation, she hopes to become a film director and travel the world on film sets/productions. She spends her time taking photos and videos for her internship, being a photographer for a local magazine, filming the TV program for sports games, reading, and being with friends. She hopes to use her love of filmmaking to educate and inspire others about our world, learning from different cultures and backgrounds to spread kindness and hope toward a better future.

How did you hear about the contest?

What inspired your work?
My love of creating narrative films.

What did you learn about the U.S. Constitution while creating your entry?
How much protection it provides us citizens compared to other countries, something we should not take for granted.

How do you plan to spread the word this year to your peers about the importance of the U.S Constitution?
Having open conversations about our knowledge and rights with friends, asking questions, and being aware of our privilege. Specifically, as a college student, continuing talking to friends about our right to vote and protest as it is a major topic on campus.

Which U.S. historical site would you like to visit?
The White House

What are your career plans?
I hope to become a film director, traveling the world on film sets while educating others about different cultures and ideologies.

How do you spend your free time?
I spend a lot of time in nature, hanging out with friends, reading (specifically obsessed with mountaineering memoirs at the moment), and doing anything behind a camera.

Why is the Constitution relevant today?
The Constitution is very relevant in discussions regarding rights being challenged by the Supreme Court. Staying informed about our rights to protest and vote creates a significant change in how our government operates.
