Anne Louise White, Aunt of Constituting America Supporter, Nancy Almasi

Constituting America’s dear friend, Nancy Almasi, has honored her beloved aunt, Anne Slater White, by making a contribution to Constituting America in her aunt’s memory. Nancy told us, “she often shared her love of American History with me.”

Anne Louise White, known fondly as Nancy, passed away on August 5, 2024, in Alexandria, VA, at the age of 91. Born on June 24, 1933, in Washington, PA, Nancy led a rich and fulfilling life marked by her dedication to community service and her entrepreneurial spirit.

Nancy graduated from Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Carlow College in 1955, followed by a Master of Social Work from Marywood University. Her career was characterized by a profound commitment to social work, where she began as a social worker before advancing to become the Director of the Agency on Aging. Nancy’s entrepreneurial ventures included owning and managing several businesses such as Macadoo’s, Archie’s Restaurant, and The Toy Store of Bethlehem. She also excelled as a top sales associate in China and Glass at Hecht’s Department Stores.

Beyond her professional life, Nancy was deeply involved in her community and was a regular attendee at the Church of the Little Flower in Chevy Chase, MD. Her hobbies included watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing golf and tennis, reading a wide range of books-from mystery and romance novels to biographies-and engaging in politics. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and bridge.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Archibald White, and her sisters, Joan Slater Arth, Sister Mary Reginia Slater, and Elisabeth Slater Albrecht. She is survived by her son, Roy White, and daughter-in-law, Kim White, both of Murrieta, CA; grandsons, Dirk White of Austin, TX, and Liam White of Murrieta, CA; and niece, Nancy Almasi of Alexandria, VA.

Services to honor Nancy’s life will include a Funeral Mass at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, Virginia on Friday, September 27th at 11AM followed by a reception in the parish’s Little Way Cafe. She will be buried on Saturday, September 28th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Visitation Retirement Fund, c/o Georgetown Visitation Monastery, 1500 35th Street NW, Washington, DC 20007, Attn: Mary Seagal, in memory of Nancy Slater White, class of 1951. Nancy’s warmth, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
