Morgan Heckman

Morgan is a 6th grader from Cleves, Ohio. She attends Taylor Middle School. She enjoys cheerleading, dance team and gymnastics. She is a member of the Taylor Middle School Student Council. She likes to bake, sing, shop and draw. She enjoys painting and designing nails for herself and her friends. She would like to own her own nail salon, become a cosmetologist or become a teacher when she grows up.

Our Interview With Morgan

Was this the first time you entered the contest?
Yes

How did you hear about the contest?
My 5th grade social studies teacher

What inspired your work?
I like treehouses and the three branches of government made me think I should draw 3 treehouses on 3 tree branches to symbolize the legislative branch, the executive branch and judicial branch.

What did you learn about the U.S. Constitution while creating your entry?
I learned that the U.S. Constitution was written to show how our government works. It protects the rights and freedoms and the government gets its power from the people.

How do you plan to spread the word this year to your peers about the importance of the U.S Constitution?
I plan to lead by example to show respect for constitutional principles through inclusion, fairness, and responsible speech as a member of the student council.

Which U.S. historical site would you like to visit?
I would like to visit Washington D.C and Mount Vernon. I will actually get to do this during my 8th grade year at Taylor Middle School.

What are your career plans?
I plan to become a cosmetologist and nail tech in hopes of owning my own business. I might also like to be a teacher.

How do you spend your free time?
I enjoy dancing, singing, painting my nails and crafting. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

Why is the Constitution relevant today?
It protects our rights and freedoms. It also gives people a voice to participate in the government.
