Gabriel Eckhart

Hi, I am Gabriel Eckhart, and I am currently a freshman at Trinity Classical Academy. I live in Santa Clarita, California. I enjoy learning new concepts, primarily in science and math. I love spending lots of time outdoors running with my cross-country team. Outside of school, I love playing volleyball with my club team and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. My family thinks I do too much, but I personally enjoy being super busy and occupied with my academic and athletic passions.
Among my favorite subjects are history, particularly the history of this country. It was important to me that I integrate the amazing legacy of my grandparents into this essay. Their stories remind me of the freedom we have in this country, which I don’t want to take for granted. Constituting America provided me with the opportunity to share my knowledge of this country, as well as my family’s history. It has made me further appreciate and be grateful to live in this free country.

What inspired your work?
My parents’ parents’ legacy of fleeing their countries and coming to the United States inspired me to include their unique stories in my work.
What did you learn about the U.S. Constitution while creating your entry?
Through the research that I had done, among many other things, I learned about the checks and balances that our Constitution ensures to prevent focused power. This made me further appreciate the Constitution and its authors.

I will spread my knowledge in my history class and write about it in my future work.
Which U.S. historical site would you like to visit?
The historical site I most want to see is Mount Rushmore. The combination of the ingenuity of man and nature should make for a stunning sight!
What are your career plans?
I aspire to be a mechanical engineer and entrepreneur.
How do you spend your free time?
When I am not focused on academics, running, or playing volleyball, I enjoy baking/cooking, traveling, and spending time with family/friends.
Why is the Constitution relevant today?
I believe the Constitution is more relevant than ever because of its core principles of a democratic republic–those of which include the protection of unalienable rights (freedom of speech, religion, etc.), ruling through the representation of the people, limiting government power through checks and balances, etc. In today’s society, we especially need to be reminded of the Constitution and its foundations to remain a united nation run by the people and for the people.
